National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors which a high school student can receive, but along with membership comes one of the greatest responsibilities. This responsibility is to demonstrate, uphold, and encourage others to promote the qualities - character, scholarship, leadership, and service - for which this organization stands.

Our local Sedes Sapientiae Chapter of NHS is only the beginning: members now have to carry on the high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character in order to continue as members of the National Honor Society.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary High School Principals. The purpose of the NHS is stated in its constitution: “The object of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate the desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students.”

“You excel. You serve. You lead. You succeed. You have a true thirst for challenge … and accomplishment.”

Students apply and are selected by faculty. Membership is open to qualified juniors and seniors who meet academic, leadership, service and character criteria. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 is required. NHS students offer peer tutoring for OA students.
